ResNRJ
aiming to turn the waste and wastewater infrastructures into energy hubs
ResNRJwater aims to turn the waste and wastewater (w&w) infrastructures and related assets in North-West Europe into energy hubs. Compared to now, those infrastructures will be more energy self-sufficient, provide RES to NWE end-users and help stabilise energy grids. Based on 7 pilots, waterboards and municipalities in four areas (DE/Ruhr, BE/Flanders, NL/North-Holland, FR/Loire-Atlantique) can uptake three validated technologies to facilitate the uptake of RES (renewable energy sources) in the w&w sector, a smart energy management and storage system for a decentralised and resilient energy supply, and a concept for consumption of energy-surplus.
By systematically exploiting the integrated RES potentials of the distinct infrastructures of the w&w sector of a territory, the expected beneficial outcome is a resilient RES-based energy supply for and from the water & wastewater sector in NWE, tailor-made to regional specifics.
PROJECT GOALS
- Turn the w&w infrastructures and related assets in NWE into energy hubs
- Increase energy supply resilience in NWE
- Exploit the potential for RES production and use from existing w&w infrastructure
- Contribute to a grid stabilisation through a balanced distribution
- Identify new technologies to facilitate the uptake of RES in the w&w sector
- Create a smart energy management and storage system, for a decentralised and resilient energy supply
- Develop a concept for consumption of energy surplus
- Resolve governance disparities in the sector across NWE through transnational cooperation
PARTNERS WILL WORK ON
WP1 – Systematise exploitation of the RES-potentials of the w&w sector
WP2 – Demonstrate resilient RES-based solutions in the w&w sector
WP2 – The 7 pilot plants
WP3 – Increase capacity of staff in the w&w sector to manage RES-based solutions in their regions
