Developing A Portal for Peatland Policies
ASPECT’s Peatland Policy Portal will provide a comprehensive dashboard for exploring the current state of peatland related policies and projects across Europe, as well as the utilities to aid in developing effective, evidence-based policies for peatland restoration and transformation.
PROJECT GOALS
- Creation of the PPP (Peatland Policy Portal) and a Restoration Toolkit
- Restoring degraded peatlands (689 ha)
- Establishing paludiculture solutions
- Analysing the potential of peatland restoration for Ireland’s first voluntary carbon credits
- Co-locating blanket bogs with renewable energy infrastructure (e.g. the Galway Wind Park)
- Supporting the development of peatland policy by:
1) conducting national analyses of CAP and WFD
2) establishing an EU-wide toolkit that catalogues all peatland projects, policies, and data

- Highlight gaps, barriers, and enablers in governance and implementation
- Make data available in a user-friendly and reliable way
