LIFE Multi-Peat

Developing A Portal for Peatland Policies

ASPECT’s Peatland Policy Portal will provide a comprehensive dashboard for exploring the current state of peatland related policies and projects across Europe, as well as the utilities to aid in developing effective, evidence-based policies for peatland restoration and transformation.

PROJECT GOALS

  • Creation of the PPP (Peatland Policy Portal) and a Restoration Toolkit
  • Restoring degraded peatlands (689 ha)
  • Establishing paludiculture solutions
  • Analysing the potential of peatland restoration for Ireland’s first voluntary carbon credits
  • Co-locating blanket bogs with renewable energy infrastructure (e.g. the Galway Wind Park)
  • Supporting the development of peatland policy by:
    1) conducting national analyses of CAP and WFD
    2) establishing an EU-wide toolkit that catalogues all peatland projects, policies, and data

PURPOSE OF PORTAL

  • Gather and display data
  • Showcase different examples
  • Provide tools for analysis and predictions
  • Highlight gaps, barriers, and enablers in governance and implementation
  • Make data available in a user-friendly and reliable way
